Common questions
- Where are my clips? Vault saves clips to the storage you connected. On Google Drive, look in the Home Field folder, in a subfolder per camera. On OneDrive, look in Apps → Home Field. On S3-compatible storage, look in the bucket and folder you entered in Settings. If you turned on Clip cleanup in Settings, older clips are removed according to your settings (on OneDrive, they go to your recycle bin). Coyote Cam sighting videos live on each sighting's page, linked from your alerts and dashboard.
- I'm not getting text alerts. Check Settings → Text alerts in your dashboard — your number must be verified. Email alerts are always sent. You can re-enable texts any time after replying STOP.
- A camera shows Offline. That's the live status Ring reports for the device — check the camera's power and Wi-Fi in the Ring app.
- How do I disconnect or delete my data? Settings → delete your account, or simply remove the app in the Ring app — either way we delete all data we hold, immediately. Clips already in your storage are yours and stay put.
Big Screen
Big Screen shows your Ring cameras live on your TV. It runs on Apple TV with tvOS 17 or later, and on Amazon Fire TV with Fire OS 6 or later.
Set up and pair your TV
- In the Ring app, open Menu → Apps and connect Home Field Big Screen. Choose which cameras and doorbells to share.
- On your TV, install Home Field Big Screen and open it: from the App Store on Apple TV, or the Amazon Appstore on Fire TV. The TV shows an 8-character pairing code.
- On your phone or computer, go to homefield.tv/pair, sign in with your Home Field email, and enter the code.
- The TV opens a live grid of your shared cameras within a few seconds.
You never type a password on the TV, and the TV never holds your Ring credentials.
Watch live
- Grid: every shared camera appears as a live tile with its name and online status.
- Full screen: select a tile to open that camera full screen. Audio plays only in full screen. Press Back to return to the grid.
- Choose cameras: turn Big Screen on or off for each camera in your dashboard.
How live streaming works
- Live video travels directly from Ring to your TV over an encrypted WebRTC connection. It does not pass through Home Field servers, and we never record or store it.
- Our server handles only connection setup: it signs the live-view request with your Ring token, which stays on our server, and passes Ring's answer back to the TV.
- Ring ends each live session after about 60 seconds. Big Screen opens a new session before the old one ends, so the picture continues. You may see a brief pause during renewal.
- When you close Big Screen or switch to another app on your TV, Big Screen closes every live session so the camera can go back to sleep.
- If you use Vault, saved clips you play on the TV are streamed from your own storage (Google Drive, OneDrive, or S3-compatible storage) through our server in transit only. They are not copied or stored.
Troubleshooting
- The pairing code expired. Codes expire after 10 minutes. Select Try again on the TV to get a new code.
- A camera is missing from the grid. Check that the camera is shared with Home Field Big Screen in the Ring app, and that Big Screen is turned on for that camera in your dashboard.
- A tile stays black or says Offline. Check the camera's power and Wi-Fi in the Ring app. Battery cameras that are low on charge may not start live view.
- Does live view drain battery cameras? Live viewing draws battery on any camera, in any app, including Ring's own. Close Big Screen when you are not watching.
Remove a TV or disconnect
- To remove one TV, open your dashboard, find Paired TVs, and revoke it. That TV loses access immediately, and any live picture on it stops within a minute.
- To turn off Big Screen entirely, remove Home Field Big Screen in the Ring app under Menu → Apps. Every paired TV stops showing live video.
