Summary
- Local Only is the default, and it sends nothing. Your captures, the text in them, and everything the app learns about them are processed and stored on your PC.
- Best Quality mode is your choice. When you turn it on, captures that look like a product can be sent to Google and other services to identify the product and find where to buy it. Documents, chats, and code are not sent for identification.
- Sensitive captures are never sent automatically. That includes captures that may show passwords, payment cards, ID numbers, or faces.
- Backups go only to your own account with Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, or Box, or to a folder you choose. They are off until you turn them on.
- No analytics, no crash reports, no ads. We do not sell your data.
Who we are and what this covers
Screenshot Sense is a Windows app by Home Field, made by Farmen Capital LLC ("we," "us"). This policy covers the Screenshot Sense app for Windows, however you install it, and the Screenshot Sense pages on homefield.tv. Our other products have their own policies.
The app has two processing modes, which you choose on the Privacy page in the app: Local Only and Best Quality. What the app sends depends on that choice.
Local Only mode
Local Only is the default. In Local Only mode, the app makes no network requests for your captures: no lookups, no web searches, and no backups, including backups to a folder. All of the following happens on your PC:
- Screen capture. The app captures your screen only when you start a capture.
- Window parts and window text. While you choose what to capture, the app asks Windows, through its accessibility interface (UI Automation), for the layout and text of the window under your pointer.
- Text recognition. The app reads text in a capture with the text recognition built into Windows.
- Codes and numbers. The app decodes barcodes and QR codes, and checks numbers such as VINs, ISBNs, product barcodes, and tracking numbers. Wi-Fi passwords and the personal details in ID card barcodes are never extracted from a code.
- Windows app and File Explorer details. The app reads details about the
program you captured, such as its name, version, publisher, digital signature, and process
information, along with your Windows version, language, time zone, and display setup. For
File Explorer, it reads the folder path and the names, sizes, and dates of the files you
selected. In file paths, your user profile folder is replaced with
%USERPROFILE%. These details do not include your user name, computer name, or serial numbers. - Suggestions and checks. The app explains Windows error codes, looks for signs of scams in the text, and checks for sensitive content, all on your PC.
- Face detection. The app checks a capture for faces with the face detector built into Windows. No face data is stored or sent.
What is stored on your PC
We cannot see or access anything the app stores on your PC.
- Capture history. Each capture is saved with a thumbnail and a record of
when it was taken, its size, an image fingerprint, and what the app learned about it, such as
the recognized text, app details, and any identification or lookup results. History lives in
%APPDATA%\tv.homefield.screenshot\captures. You choose how long to keep it in Keep captures for: Until I quit the app (nothing is written to disk), 1 day, 7 days (the default), 30 days, or Forever, which keeps captures until you delete them. - Images you save. Saved images go to the folder you choose, by default
Pictures\Screenshots\Screenshot Sense, and stay until you delete them. - Settings. Your shortcut, capture options, toolbar layout, theme, window
position, and backup settings, in
%APPDATA%\tv.homefield.screenshot. Editor preferences, such as the last tool you used, are kept by the app's built-in browser component in%LOCALAPPDATA%\tv.homefield.screenshot. - Lookup cache. In Best Quality mode, lookup results are cached in
%LOCALAPPDATA%\tv.homefield.screenshotfor between 1 hour and 90 days, depending on the source, so the same lookup is not repeated. Expired results are removed automatically. - Calendar and contact files. When you create a calendar event or contact from a capture, the app writes a file so Windows can open it in your calendar or contacts app. Files older than a day are removed when the app starts.
- License, trial, and sign-in tokens. Your license, the date your trial started, and the tokens for any backup service you connect are kept in Windows Credential Manager.
What Best Quality mode sends
Best Quality mode is off until you turn it on. When it is on, the app sends data to the services below. The data goes over encrypted connections, and each service handles it under its own privacy policy, listed in Third-party services.
Automatic web search
In Best Quality mode, Search the web for every capture is on unless you turn it off. The app first reads the capture on your PC. Then:
- A photo-like capture, such as a picture of an object, is sent to the Google Gemini API with the text recognized in it. If Gemini does not name a product, the image is sent to Google Cloud Vision, and then, if needed, to SerpApi, which searches Google Lens. If a product is named, the image may also be sent to eBay to find similar listings.
- A store product page in a web browser is not sent as an image. The product name is taken from the window title.
- A product barcode or ISBN is not sent as an image. The number is looked up as described in Lookups by number and address.
- Any other capture, such as a document, chat, spreadsheet, error message, or code, is not sent for identification.
When a product is named, the app sends only the product name to Serper, which returns Google Shopping offers and Google Search results; to eBay, which returns listings; and to the Google Gemini API, together with those search results, to write the product details.
To show product pictures on the result card, the app loads them from the sites that host them, such as Google, SerpApi, eBay, Walmart, and Best Buy. Like any web image, each request tells that site your IP address.
Lookups by number and address
In Best Quality mode, these lookups run whether or not Search the web for every capture is on. They send the number, name, or address, never the image.
| When the capture contains | What is sent | Sent to |
|---|---|---|
| A web address in a browser, or a link in a QR code | The full web address, to check it for malware and phishing | Google Web Risk |
| A valid vehicle identification number (VIN) | The VIN, then the make, model, and year to check for recalls | U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) |
| A valid product barcode | The barcode number | Open Food Facts, then Serper for store offers |
| A valid ISBN | The ISBN | Open Library, then Serper for store offers |
| A Windows program or error message | The program's product name, to find its latest version | Windows Package Manager (winget), which queries Microsoft's package repository |
Searches you start
Search buttons on the result card, such as Look closer, send the capture, or the area you select, to Google Lens through SerpApi, Google Cloud Vision, the Google Gemini API, or eBay when you press them, including for captures the app would not send automatically. The Send crops without asking setting lets a selected area go without a confirmation step. It is off by default.
What is never sent automatically
Before anything is sent by the automatic web search, the app checks the capture on your PC. If the capture may contain any of the following, the app does not send it automatically, and the result card says why:
- Passwords, API keys, access tokens, and private keys
- Payment card numbers
- Bank account numbers, routing numbers, and IBANs
- Government ID numbers, such as Social Security, passport, and driver's license numbers, and ID card and boarding pass barcodes
- Health information, such as diagnosis codes, medical record numbers, and patient dates of birth
- Email addresses and phone numbers
- Faces. The app detects faces on your PC with the face detector built into Windows. No face data is stored or sent.
The check works by recognizing patterns, so it can miss something. If a capture shows something you do not want sent, use Local Only mode or turn off Search the web for every capture.
Cloud backups
Backups are off by default. If you turn them on, captures go only to a place you choose:
- Google Drive, in a
Screenshot Sensefolder. The app can access only the files it creates. - Microsoft OneDrive, in an app folder. The app cannot see the rest of your OneDrive.
- Dropbox, in an app folder under
Apps. The app cannot see the rest of your Dropbox. - Box, in a
Screenshot Sensefolder. - A folder on your PC, such as one synced by iCloud Drive, Proton Drive, or pCloud.
You sign in to Google, Microsoft, Dropbox, or Box in your own web browser. We never see your password. The app keeps the sign-in tokens in Windows Credential Manager and uses them only to upload your backups and show which account is connected. The files go straight from your PC to your account. They do not pass through Farmen Capital LLC.
Each backup is the capture image and a file describing it, including what the app learned and, unless you turn off Include recognized text in the sidecar, the recognized text. A backup contains the original capture, not the edits you make in the editor, so blurring part of a capture does not hide it in the backup.
Backups follow your settings: every capture, only favorites, after analysis, or only when you select Back up now. By default, the app asks before backing up a capture that may be sensitive. Backups require Best Quality mode, and Local Only mode pauses them. Disconnecting a service deletes its sign-in tokens from your PC but does not delete files already in your account.
Licenses and purchases
The app checks your license on your PC. It never contacts a server to find out whether you are licensed. Your license includes a license ID, your plan, and the email address you bought with, and is signed so the app can confirm it is genuine. The 14-day trial is tracked on your PC.
Purchases are not open yet. When they open, Microsoft processes Microsoft Store purchases. We never receive your full payment card number. We keep your email address and a record of your purchase so we can send your license and help you with it later.
Sense Cloud, the Home Field service
Sense Cloud is a service operated by Farmen Capital LLC, so the app does not need its own key
for each provider. It runs on Vercel and stores data in a Supabase project in the United States
(region us-east-1). It is the same service behind
Picture Sense.
The Windows app does not use it today. It still calls the providers in What Best Quality mode sends directly, with keys stored on your PC. We will update this page before that changes.
When you turn on cloud features, the app signs in to a Home Field account and sends its lookups through Sense Cloud instead. Cloud features are off until you turn them on. A capture that may contain sensitive content, including a face, is never sent to Sense Cloud automatically; you can still choose to send it yourself with a button. Local Only mode never reaches Sense Cloud, or any other service. When cloud features are on, Sense Cloud:
- receives what those providers would have received, and calls them on your behalf, so no provider key is on your PC for the providers that have moved;
- stores answers for product names so the same lookup is not repeated, and a count of lookups for your account each month;
- writes one cost record per call, holding the provider, the model, the cost, the latency, and whether it worked. It holds no image, no prompt, and no text from your captures;
- stores your sign-in record, your entitlements, and your credit balance, so it knows what you bought;
- stores captures, results, and generated images only if you turn on cloud history, under the retention setting you choose, and deletes them when you ask.
Cloud identification, image generation, cloud history, and cloud backups need a Basic or Plus subscription. A lifetime license on its own never calls a paid provider at all, so nothing in that path can spend money or send a capture.
What Sense Cloud stores, how long it keeps it, and how to delete it are the same rules the Picture Sense privacy policy sets out, because it is the same service.
Store links and commissions
Some store links earn Farmen Capital LLC a commission. Today these are eBay links, which carry an eBay Partner Network identifier. The result card says so when a link earns a commission, and offers are sorted by price, cheapest first, whether or not they earn one. When you open a store link, the store receives your visit under its own privacy policy.
Analytics, crash reports, and ads
The app does not send analytics, usage statistics, crash reports, or advertising identifiers, and it shows no ads.
The Privacy page in the app has a Share anonymous usage switch, which is off by default. In the current version, the app sends nothing when you turn it on. If we add usage statistics, they will be sent only while that switch is on, will describe which suggestion you picked and how long it took, and will never include images, text from your captures, or anything that identifies you. We will update this policy before that happens.
Clipboard and startup
- Clipboard. The app puts images or text on your clipboard when you copy them, or after each capture if you turn that on (copying the image is on by default). It reads your clipboard only when you paste into the editor or select Paste on the License page.
- Starting with Windows. By default, the app starts when you sign in to Windows so your capture shortcut is ready. You can turn this off in the app's settings.
When you contact us
If you email us or join the launch list on this site, we receive your name, email address, and message. We use them only to answer you or, for the launch list, to tell you when purchases open. The form on this site is delivered to our inbox by Twilio SendGrid. We do not sell or share your information.
Children
Screenshot Sense is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Keeping and deleting your data
Data on your PC stays until the retention setting removes it or you delete it. To remove everything the app keeps on your PC:
- Uninstall Screenshot Sense from Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Delete the folders
%APPDATA%\tv.homefield.screenshotand%LOCALAPPDATA%\tv.homefield.screenshot. - Delete any images you saved, which are in
Pictures\Screenshots\Screenshot Senseby default. - Open Credential Manager, select Windows Credentials, and
remove the entries that contain
tv.homefield.screenshot. This removes your license, trial date, and backup sign-in tokens.
Backups stay in your own cloud account or folder until you delete them there. To also stop the app's access, remove Screenshot Sense from the connected apps in your Google, Microsoft, Dropbox, or Box account settings.
We keep emails and purchase records only as long as we need them to support you and to meet our legal and tax obligations.
Your choices and rights
- Your captures. Everything the app stores is on your PC, so you can open, copy, or delete it at any time. Backups are in your own account, where you control them.
- What is sent. Use Local Only mode to send nothing, or turn off Search the web for every capture to send only what you ask for.
- What we hold. For your emails, launch list entry, and purchase records, email support@homefield.tv to ask for a copy, a correction, or deletion. Depending on where you live, you may have other rights under local law, and we honor requests we receive.
Security
Your captures stay in your Windows user profile. Your license and sign-in tokens are kept in Windows Credential Manager, not in plain files, and the app never shows sign-in tokens in its window. Lookups and backups use encrypted HTTPS connections. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, so keep your PC and your Windows account protected.
